Olivette Farm is a sustainable, four season vegetable farm located within the Olivette Community just north of downtown Asheville, NC. Our focus is on growing year round salad greens, root crops and specialty produce.
Olivette Farm is a project that affirms the Olivette community’s commitment to re-localizing food production in Western North Carolina. The farm grows year round salad greens, specialty produce, flowers, fruit and honey for local farmers markets and restaurants, as well as CSA memberships to the Olivette and the Asheville community.
To properly steward the land, Olivette Farm uses methods such as crop rotation, cover cropping and thoughtful tillage, as well as a wide variety of both traditional and modern growing practices. Everything grown on the farm is produced while preserving the integrity of the soil and respecting the natural balance of our environment.
We welcome visitors and volunteers at Olivette Farm, as the growth and education of our community is our top priority.
Joe carries a decade of production vegetable farming experience in WNC. His desire to share methods, tools, and growing practices while educating interns transitioning to farmers has kept him an active member within the local farming community.
Joe comes to Olivette with a passion to not only cultivate crops but connections with people. He shares in Olivette’s vision of community gathered around a working farm, and sustainable living that seamlessly transpires from the surrounding landscape. It is his intention to not only grow food and feed families within the community but to create conversations around food production, to incorporate community members who want to be involved and connect with the land in a way that is unique to Olivette.
He holds a B.S. in Psychology from The College of Charleston and can often be found in the field deciphering the language of plants. When he’s not farming he enjoys spending time with his family, working on their homestead and basking in the beautiful outdoors that WNC offers.

What's in a share?
Our CSA focuses on providing members with a diverse array of high quality vegetables throughout the growing season. We focus on flavor, freshness, colors and quality, growing over 40 different types of vegetables. We grow all the staples necessary for preparing any meal as well as many specialty crops popular amongst market shoppers. It is our intention that the CSA serves as a one stop shop for members’ produce needs. This year we will be offering a limited number of Traditional Box shares, where you get a weekly box delivered to one of our pick up locations for 20 weeks. We are also excited to offer a Market Share where you receive a pre-paid farm card with a credit amount of your choosing that allows you to shop at any of our markets. Your balance will be automatically tracked throughout the season and we’ll periodically update you. You can add more credit at any time throughout the season. The advantages to the Market Share are you are free to choose your weekly items, you won’t miss a share if you’re out of town, and your credit is good for the entire growing season opposed to just 20 weeks. Your credit will only be good for the 2019 growing season. There is no rollover of any remaining credit from one year to the next.
We offer two CSA options:
- Market Share CSA - $315 or $525 credit.
- Traditional Box CSA - $525-(20 weeks; mid-May to October) Deadline to sign up April 15th.
- We also offer an add-on Beer Share from Burial Beer Co. for $280 (20 weeks; mid-May-Oct.)

WHAT IS COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE?
Community Supported Agriculture or CSA, is one of the best ways to obtain fresh seasonal vegetables, herbs and flowers. As a CSA member, you support local agriculture by helping farmers offset the yearly costs of seeds and supplies, and reduce the environmental impact of the long distances food travels to go from a farm to your plate.
A CSA is a partnership between the farmer and its members, sharing in the risks and rewards of the growing season. We seek to promote a close relationship with our CSA family, while providing a diverse selection of high quality produce.
WHY JOIN OUR CSA?
Seasonality: Eating locally goes hand in hand with eating seasonally. Joining our CSA means you'll eat with the seasons, try tasty vegetables you've never heard of before, and have a diverse offering of vegetables each week. By the end of the season you'll be well versed in the abundance of vegetables that grow here in Western North Carolina.
Health: We think that eating fresh, chemical free, non-GMO food is one of the best things you can do for your health. The vegetables in our CSA are harvested no more than 24 hours before they are delivered, ensuring the absolute best flavor, a high nutrient content and a longer storage life.
Environment: By supporting a farm that uses organic methods you are a contributor in growing food that is not only good for your health, but also good for the land. Our growing practices mean that our land is chemical free. We also have implemented growing practices that promote healthy soil ecology and provide a habitat for pollinators, as well as other beneficial insects and animals. In addition, buying local means that the transport cost and distance to get your vegetables from farm to plate is minimal, further reducing your environmental impact.
Community: Our CSA members are a family and we plan to treat you that way, too! You'll see your Olivette farmers working on the farm at each on-farm CSA pick up and we encourage you to come over and say hello. It's a perfect time to share stories, recipes and tidbits about the farm. We hope that your CSA bag will also provide you with the opportunity to set aside more time to share meals with your friends and family.
