Field Trip! Black Mountain College Tour (Resident Event)

April 5 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Events Committee and Blaise deFranceaux invite you to a special tour of the campus site of Black Mountain College (BMC) at Lake Eden, near Black Mountain (just 30 minutes drive from Olivette). The college was founded in 1933 as a radical experiment in education and community, and moved to the Lake Eden site in 1941 and remained there until it closed in 1956. BMC was a forerunner in progressive interdisciplinary education which had an extraordinary impact on modern and contemporary art, dance, theater, music, and performance. As part of its educational offerings, Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center leads tours of the historical site of the college.

We are invited to join the tour as a group on April 5, 2024. The two-hour tour will cover the lower campus and the iconic Studies Building, and will cost $20 per person. Don’t miss this opportunity for a fascinating look at the crucible of experimentation that indelibly impacted 20th century arts and culture with a legacy that lives on today and into the future!
